In our center a local UVB 311 nm phototherapy is performed (palms, soles of the feet, elbows and knees bends, and genitals) by modern computerized Waldman® UV-182 system. For treatment of rashes are used only 311-312 nm ultraviolet (UV) rays. They inhibit inflammation, therefore perfectly fit for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases. Compared with broad wave (290–320 nm) phototherapy, narrow wave technology greatly reduces the probability of side effects (premature skin aging, wrinkles, skin cancer). Also, it is convenient that only the area covered by rash is treated, avoiding other parts of the body from lighting with UV rays.
What to expect?
During the procedure, the treated skin area will be illuminated by the rays. During it you will feel pleasing warm. The duration depends on the patient’s skin condition, the skin phototype, and etc. Initially, the procedure will last for a few dozen of seconds, then its duration will increase. Before phototherapy at least 2 hours the skin should be not oiled with creams or ointments. After the procedure it is recommended to anoint the body skin with emollient.
